my first music video premiered today on altered zones and rose quartz and it’s for the most promising new electronic musician in brooklyn, magick mountain, with his ep’s title track “one for my ego”. this deep jam fits perfectly next to magick mountain’s highly acclaimed “plains” on the two-track debut, with a full-length soon to come on the pop manifesto.
also dive into the awesome holy other remix.
well, well, well.
happy to announce that we survived new years.
who woulda known that a group of friends could send a few emails and end up flying out and working with some of our heroes.
the show garnered interest beyond any of our expectations.
thousands flocked in, with even more lined up outside.
weird magic manned the decks on the massive soundsystem.
autre ne veut writhed on the floor, burning through favorites like “demoneyez” and “drama cum drama”.
outer limits recordings were the perfect party band, as the vid below indicates.
ariel played a show in classic tradition: by grabbing the mic and being himself.
sam from outer limits recordings spun a rapid-fire set of obscurities and favorites on the decks, as ariel did his thing.
fans mobbed ariel as security tried to bring down the ruckus.
midway through the set, he announced “i’m actually quitting after 30 years… you will have to find somebody else to take my place”
what a weird and wacky spectacle.
to the people who had trouble getting in, we apologize. sincerely. we were inside trying to make sure the music was running smoothly. we didn’t know the extent of what was going on outside and nobody had proper control over it.
it was a gigantic, unprecedented (clusterfuck).
we curated, working to make it the best party possible with an amazing lineup. (ariel pink, outer limits recordings, autre ne veut, innergaze, dj rashad, magick mountain, physical therapy, beautiful swimmers)
it imploded at 2:15a, with the cops shutting us down due to crowding in the streets.
the party unofficially continued to market hotel late night, with dj rashad and magick mountain.
it was all pretty decadent, thrilling, weird, special.

who else would assemble a bill like this but weird magic? three months deep and we’re bringing our dream bill to brooklyn on new years. first weird magic event of this scale… we’ve got a 10k sq ft warehouse, fully secured. intense all-analog sound system. visuals, lazers and a/v installations. we have brought hologram wizard doctor laser out of 20 years of retirement to come out and build a lazer pyramid (check this video out, for real). we are flying ariel pink in from l.a. to grace us with a solo set the likes of which will probably only be witnessed once (we ourselves don’t really know what to expect from him), with sets by outer limits recordings, autre ne veut and steve summers setting the vibe. after ariel we party til there’s no one left, soundtracked by a selection of our favorite audio vibeologists (including footwork’s finest, dj rashad, flying in from chicago). alongside our pals vibes and daily ghost, we welcome you to bring in twenty_eleven with us in the finest way possible. cosmic rebirth.

for this post we give you a lesson in the deep. three artists, connected from brooklyn to berlin, via remixing each other’s tracks and participating in a musical dialogue that’s plunging electronic music into heavier waters. bk’s magick mountain and physical therapy, who we’ve recently been seeing performing together at a new weird breed of warehouse parties, and berlin’s holy other, whose “yr love” was featured in our altered zones mix last month.
“deep” and “heavy” — both terms these artists tend to drop, and territory these travelers know well, if these tracks speak of anything.
