brenmar makes club music for the future, straight up, and “paper running” sounds like it was specially written for some dank rave in the underbelly of the pyramids of giza. this slightly aged leftover from brenmar’s at it again sessions was left off the release because he felt it didn’t fit with the others. now out officially today, it happens to be our favorite thing he’s done (at least, since that mahjongg remix back in the day). sometimes i feel like the name of this blog subconsciously informed/declared a certain taste of ours, and this track fits the format pretty perfectly.
mahjongg – Tell the Police the Truth (Brenmar remix)
weird magic’s current live performances exist somewhere between live performance and dj set, and most of our gigs seem to straddle the line between shows and parties. these lines all blurred together this past weekend, at two weird magic sets and some great shows by ch-rom/human resources/birthdays, st. vincent/julianna barwick, blondes/physical therapy/brenmar, and the so so glos. our set on saturday featured vocals by samandude of the great band friends, and the party went til late in the night, with many a friend joining on vocal duties. at one point the music cut out, but the mic was still on, and sasha of blissed out led a communal acapella/stomp jamout. so many highlights. check the photographic evidance below.
since we saw gatekeeper at a very early show opening for salem and witnessed an unsuspecting packed house at glasslands transformed into an otherworldly dark rave cave, they’ve been one of our favorite new bands and sounds.
on their upcoming giza ep, they fit comfortably in their new spacesuits, their dimension fully realized and refined. we’ve hipped you to “chains” via the intense thunderhorse-directed video, now give a listen to possibly our favorite track on the ep, “serpent,” along with new remix from brenmar.
we visited gatekeeper’s bushwick studio before our dj gig with them this past sunday and snapped a few shots of the men at work.
the photos appeared on altered zones in their excellent gatekeeper interview/profile.

Last night was the final episode of ghe20 gothik, a swirling, jerking celebration of our inner raver avatars. Dj’s decended from the next level giving earthlings an idea what it sounds like up there. dj rashad, 1/2 of the conspiracy behind ghettoteknitianz graced us with his juke. the ceiling split open revealing a virtual world above, where the footwork goes as fast as your processor can handle.
