pepsi7up – over the rainbow

music strange enough to alter your reality, taking your mind to places unforseen, revealing shades you were not aware of. this kind of tonic is made when all the conventions and touchstones passed down through time are washed away leaving nothing but the purest intentions. occasionally pieces like this pop up, delivered by life via some soundcloud page with no photo, no bio, no links, no “followers”, no other songs to go by. sometimes perhaps it’s better that way. for now, we’re better advised to just close our minds and glide through this gleaming roy g. biv icefield again.

dakota – we at the mall

dakota – we at the mall

this super mysterious youtube sensation called dakota has appeared on weird magic once before, and is now creeping back into our speakers after our discovery of the track “we at the mall”. the fuzzy vintage synth loops swirl in the air like clouds of 80′s hairspray permeating the room once this track starts playing. the loops repeating have the audial effect that huffing that hairspray would create. repeating whirls of dancey grains build upon each other until the beat drops and you cant help but lose your shit. mp3s have yet to come out, but we are told an album will be released in the coming months, so seriously keep your eyes peeled for dakota.

video: magick mountain – one for my ego

my first music video premiered today on altered zones and rose quartz and it’s for the most promising new electronic musician in brooklyn, magick mountain, with his ep’s title track “one for my ego”. this deep jam fits perfectly next to magick mountain’s highly acclaimed “plains” on the two-track debut, with a full-length soon to come on the pop manifesto.

holy other – yr love “enter the void” video

holy other – yr love “enter the void” video

came across this video of clips from the french film enter the void set to, weird magic favorite, holy other‘s yr love. This vid goes so well with the song, it should be the music video. the deep colors, drug addled visuals, and erotic dancers all come into play perfectly with the sounds woven by holy other’s breathy vocal samples and abysmal beat. I feel like i pictured the dystopic void displayed in the film clips before i even saw this video.

holy other – yr love

Also check out holy other’s remix of how to dress well‘s take it on. how to dress well was recently named one of the top 10 artists to watch in 2k11 by fact magazine and his album love remains will be rereleased this month on tri angle records

pedro maia

pedro maia

waking up to find a new short film in your inbox thats scored by vintage panda bear is a sign that times are good, in my book at least. pedro maia sent this really beautiful film to us from portugal the other day and it really struck a chord with us. in this video, pedro has collaborated with noah lennox, “exploring the relation between a musician and filmmaker and their personal reflection on memories”. pretty fitting that the song chosen is titled “a musician and a filmmaker”. the film evokes such a beautiful and downright spooky tunnel into your soul, with super 8 memories that look like they could’ve been yours or a family members, from times that have come and are gone, only for you to keep. when pedro isnt using the imagery of simple things everyone remembers and misses, he uses colors and manipulates the look of film burning to abstract the viewer into a surreal, organic environment which comes off almost like its what a memory thats forgotten would look like. enjoy
