Traxman just dropped a juke masterpiece with his “Mind of Traxman” LP on Planet Mu. He is one of the best vinyl djs in the world. Howse finally gets a proper release with “Lay Hollow” on Tri Angle on the 28th and coming in from MA with The Range for the occasion, bringing their wicked strain of ghost juke with them. Ñaka Ñaka is in town from Mexico after killing it at our Festival Nrmal party there recently. 100% Silk’s Octo Octa is a wonder with his live manipulations of his silky beats. Disparate spells will join and intermingle on this Weird Terrain. Touch it.
we are thrilled to co-present this special full theatrical performance by geneva jacuzzi, who, if our last encounter with her is any indication, is pretty much the epitome of our weird magic, and this time, for the first time, geneva’s music will come to life with an “elaborate theatrical set, geometric choreography by the dance-troupe Spazz Hands, elaborately bizarre costuming, and absurdist aerial acrobatics.” i’ll be opening the night with a 2-hour set, followed by geneva’s performance, after which the train will be chugging all night with beats provided by minimal wave’s veronica vasicka, and a tag-team set between steve summers and ital. let the full description tantalize you, below.

announcing weird magic sessions, a different kind of party where a revolving cast of djs and sound technicians go head to head, collaborating and exploring new sonic terrain, weaving an eclectic sonic tapestry while you dance. we’ve teamed up with cool places soundsystem to bring you this supremely talented cast of djs and noiseniks. expect the unexpected!
Snaps from our sold-out party at 285 Kent w/ NGUZU, Salva, et al, + Saturday night’s party w/ Tim Sweeney and Kim Ann Foxman which I djed + a brief stop at the reopening of Bushwick’s Body Actualized Center. Fun weekend!
have been in mexico for the past few days for festival nrmal and fun, you can see some of my photos on pitchfork.
i also djed and curated and organized the afterparty for the festival, and it was an eclectic round robin of vastly disparate sounds, eventually leading to a dj jam session with live vocals from prince rama, friends, liturgy and pals. salud, mexico!
thx to everyone who came out friday, s!ck, spencers gifs and to all the amazingly talented performers. these people really understand modern dance music, and we’ve got recordings to prove it. jam live guest mixes from all the artists below, with photos from the night after the jump or on facebook.
the next one gonna be even crazier .. stay tuned for announcements>>>
join us tomorrow night at santos for hollagramz ny debut, plus dj sets by dave quam/massacooraman, rizzla, blk. adonis, lil internet, mark brown, and yours truly.
The impact which created the Caloris Basin was so powerful that its effects are seen on a global scale. It caused lava eruptions and left a concentric ring over 2 km tall surrounding the impact crater. At the antipode of the Caloris Basin lies a large region of unusual, hilly and furrowed terrain, sometimes called “Weird Terrain”. – [source]
this friday is going to be very special.
huerco s, the 20 year old musician/video artist/dj/party promoter from kansas city who we’ve been utterly obsessed with and seen many of you readers feel the same way about, is coming in from kansas city to play his first show. lf wind (logan takahashi of the illustrious teengirl fantasy) will also be making his live debut with a late night set presenting his solo work for the first time. slava (who you’ll be hearing a lot more from soon when he drops his next e.p. on 0pn’s software label) will be performing a rare audio + visual set. innergaze (100% silk) and terekke (l.i.e.s.) both weave some of the best and rawest analog bedroom electronic music in brooklyn.
the dream dj lineup of huerco s., blondes, jan woo, and trance_ebooks will be keeping you dancing all night, along with myself.
taking care to keep this inexpensive and all ages, rule-less and transcendent.
there will be more details that i’d rather leave to surprise.
this friday, feel the magic…
weird magic is teaming up with spencer’s gifs and s!ck to bring a bunch of our favorite djs and minds under one roof. the theme on this night is sound technicians who are serious about a well-chosen and executed dj set, and pushing dancefloor/club music into the future via an eclectic brew of sounds and far-reaching inspiration.
rsvp on facebook, check tracks and mixes from all the performers below, with plenty more to explore beyond this page.
topping off a stacked dj bill is hollagramz (also nostrangers to weird magic) are coming in from denver to play their first new york show ever, which we’re honored to present after their killer sets at weird magic’s sxsw 2011 showcases — one of the best, most underrated production duos right now. have a listen:
dave quam, who’s nostranger to weird magic with all the work he’s done shining light on obscure international dance movements and his hometown’s own juke and ghetto house, to concocting eclectic and absurd sound brews himself (and quickly snapped up by the elite fade to mind crew), is coming in for a dj set b2b with his own alter ego. what!?
mark brown is one of the hardest working cats i know, basically running the scene in baltimore between working/living at the copycat, booking everyonegood for his deep in the game party, curating the web show 120 megabytes, and a gifted producer in his own right.
our pal wills glasspiegel (npr/afropop worldwide/janka nabay/shangaan electro), who made us an awesome guest mix last year, will be providing visual stimulation all night.
